"This is us." I said, turning the corner. It started pouring as soon as we got off the bus. Ceci had an umbrella, but with the winds it didn't matter. We were all soaked. We lived in a small rundown complex. The rent was cheap, and it was relatively safe. Our next door neighbors kept a pretty close eye on us. They were two guys attending the same small college as me. Oliver "Olie" Martin, and Ted Campbell. Ted was quiet, and almost never said a word to anyone other then Olie, or me. He was tall, skinny, and would have been very handsome if he didn't look so depressed and lost all the time. They were both like brothers to me. Ceci, however, had a huge thing for Olie. He was incredibly smart, charming, and absolutely hilarious. We'd only lived next to them for three months, but we hung out at eachothers apartments all the time. "Second floor, second apartment. 2B. Not hard to find, this is it." I said, and unlocked the door. "Stop talking and just get inside. I'm freezing!" Ceci said. "Well miss Cecille Brandenburg, if you would have only worn warmer clothes like I suggested this morning, you would not be so cold." I said in a snooty british accent. Ceci just glared at me. "You are also still wearing your work apron." I said, still in character. "Damn it! I forgot to take it off again! What is wrong with me?" She asked, laughing. "Nice place." Luken said. I had forgotten he was even there. "Oh. Sorry. It's not much, but perfect for Ceci and I. Come on, I'll show ya around." I said, and took off my coat. I hung it up on an old coat rack. Luken just stood there. "You can take your jacket off." I told him. "Oh." He said, and took it off. "You can hang it up too." Ceci said, and walked to her room. I just laughed and took the jacket from him and hung it up. He was wearing a black hoodie that was halfway zipped up. He had white shirt on underneath that. Blue jeans, black boots. "So, this is the kitchen. Small. The living room," I pointed, "Ceci's room over there. The bathroom is around that corner and my room is to the left behind the kitchen." I told him. "That was the tour?" He asked. "Sorry. It's not very big." I told him. "I like it. Better then my place." He said. "Well, you are welcome to chill wherever. I'm gonna change." I said. "Okay, cool." He said, and sat on the couch. I went to my room and took off my wet clothes. I found some jeans, a longsleave red shirt that had a hood and put those on. I dug through a small pile of clothes on my floor and found a thin grey sweater and put it on over my shirt. I had a little trouble pulling the hood out so it wasn't under the sweater, but I finally got it. I buttoned the bottom half of my sweater then went to the mirror that hung on my door. I grabbed a brush from my dresser and brushed through my hair then blow dryed it real quick. My make-up was a little smudged, but I didn't care. I opened the door and walked back out. "Nice paintings." Luken said, looking around. "Those are Ceci's." I said. "They are amazing." He said. "THANKS! I HEARD THAT!" Ceci shouted from her room and Luken laughed. I sat down next to him on the couch and put my feet on the coffee table. "So, what happened to you after highschool?" I asked him. "I fell into a tough crowd I guess. Then I realized I was being an idiot and left to California. I started school there, but only went off and on. A bunch of horrible things happened, and I moved back here about two months ago." He said. "Wow. I got the Cliff Notes version of that story." I said. "I didn't want to bore you. What about you?" He asked me. "Not much. I've had several meaningless jobs. Decided to go back to school about a year and a half ago. Some horrible stuff happened to me a few months ago, and then Ceci and I found this place and moved in." I said. "There. I gave you the cliff notes version too." "You're funny." He said. "I try." I told him. Just then my front door burst open. Luken jumped to his feet. "Whoa. Who is Mr. Jumpy Pants?" Olie asked, and looked at me. "Ah. I see your hair is died orange today. Ever heard of knocking?" I asked Olie. "Ever heard of locking the door?" He replied." I could have been a robber or a rapist. "I think Ceci wants you to be the rapist." I said. "SHUT UP!" She shouted, opening her bedroom door. Olie and I laughed. When he smiled the light caught his nose ring. He was the only guy I knew who had the personality to pull one off. "Olie, this is Luken. He went to highschool with us." I said. "Nice to meet you." Olie said, holding out his hand. Luken smiled and shook it. "Same." He said. "I like your shorts." Ceci said, walking over to Olie. He had on Red plaid ones. "How can you wear those? It's freezing?" I asked him. "I don't care." He said, still looking at Ceci. "Oh just do it and get it over with already!" I shouted. Olie laughed, but Ceci gave me a dirty look. "Well, anyone want to see a movie with me?" Olie asked. "I've got school." I said. "I'll go!" Ceci shouted. I tried not to laugh at how eager she sounded. "Well lets go my little vixen." Olie said and held out his arm. Ceci linked hers with his and they skipped out of the apartment. "I wish they would just date already." I said to Luken when the left. "They'd be a good couple." He said. I looked at the clock and sighed. "Well, I have to go to class. It was nice seeing you." I said to Luken. "I'll walk you." He said. "You don't have to do that. I'm fine." I told him. "I know. I just feel like an idiot. I havn't said much of anything since I ran into you, and I don't want to miss an oportunity here." He said. "An oportunity?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "I'm trying to get up enough courage to ask for your phone number." He said, and I giggled. "You are so cute. You know when I first saw you I thought you were going to be a big tough guy." I said. "Hey, I can be both." He said, and I laughed. "Well, I'll take you up on your offer to walk me to class. And maybe, just maybe, I'll give you my phone number." I told him. "Deal." He said, and smiled. It made me blush. I never blushed! We grabbed our coats and left. The hard rain had turned to a light sprinkle, so fortunatly we didn't get soaked again. I pulled my hood over my head so I wouldn't get my hair or the top of my shirt wet. "So, what are you studying?" Luken asked. "Uh, lets see. This sememster my course schedule includes English, Psychology, History, and Theatre." I said. "Wow. Don't know what you wanna do?" He asked me. "No idea!" I said, and he laughed. "Sounds like me." He said. "Is the beat up copy of Howl for your english class?" he asked. "Yeah. How'd you know I had that?" I asked. "I saw you put it in your bag." He said. "Yeah, it is. I'm writing a paper on Allen Ginsberg and his literary influences." I said. "Wow. I like Kerouac better." He said, and I smiled. "Me too." I said. "You seem surprised." He said. "I am, I guess." I told him. He just laughed. We got to the campus early, so we walked to a few covered tables and sat down. "Smoke?" He asked, holding out a pack. "No thanks." I said staring at them. "I uh, I quit." I told him. "Oh. Sorry." he said, and put them away. "I don't care if you smoke." I told him. He smiled and took the pack back out and lit one up. "When did you quit?" He asked. "When the horrible things happened." I answered. "Oh, I see. Cliff notes." He said. "You got it." I told him. We sat there in the drizzling rain and talked about everything. It was amazing. Before I knew it, it was time to go to my english class. "Hey, I gotta go." I said, kind of dissapointed. "But here." I handed him a folded piece of paper with my phone number on it. "Call me later." I told him. "You got it." He said, and smiled. I turned away to walk to class, then stopped and turned back around. "Forget something?" He asked. "Just this." I said, and walked over and hugged him. "Bye." I said, and waved. "Later." He replied and waved. I turned the corner then stopped and leaned on the wall. "Wow." I said to myself. I hadn't had a connection with someone like that since...well, for a long time. I smiled and walked to class. I had my Psyc class after that, and when it let out at 7:45, I was exhausted. I couldn't stop yawning. I headed back to my apartment, and when I was almost off campus I stopped in disbeleif. "What are you doing here?" I asked, walking up to Luken. "I didn't want you to have to walk back home alone." He said. "You waited out here for almost 3 hours?" I asked him. He just shrugged. "I spent most of it over there drinking coffee and talking to the girls working there. They are incredibly stupid." He said, and I laughed. "Come on. Walk me home." I told him. "You got it." He said.
