"How've you been?" He asked. "I should go." I said, turning to Luken. "Wait. Can we talk? Things ended really badly." Taylor asked. "No." I said, just wanting him to leave. "Okay, fine. I see how it is." He said, and left. "Lets get out of here." Ceci whispered in my ear. I watched Taylor leave with a couple guys I recognized but didn't know. "No, it's okay. They are leaving." I told her. "Are you sure?" She asked. "Yeah." I answered, taking a deep breath. I picked up my beer and drank half of it. "Hey, is everything okay?" Luken asked. "Yeah, it is now." I told him.
We stayed for at least two hours talking and joking around with Luken, Stuart, and their friends. Ceci and I had quite a bit to drink too! I kept giggling at everything. "I think someone is ready to go home." Luken said, slurring a little bit. It made Ceci and I laugh. "I think you are a bit drunk too." She told Luken. "Nah! This is nothing!" Stuart said. "I'm ready when you are though. If you don't mind walking me and my inebriated frind here home." I said to Luken. "I wouldn't dream of doing anything else." He said. "Stop trying to be charming when you are drunk." I told him and giggled. He stuck his tounge out at me. "Oh, that was fucking lame!" I said. Luken stood up. "Hey guys, we're gonna head out. Thanks for the beer, and the good times." He said to the table. "Aw man! you're leaving?" Sean shouted. I could tell he was going to have a rough morning! "Yeah man. Gotta get these pretty ladies home." Luken said. "Alright. Take care." Sean said, hugging all of us. We said goodbye to a few more people then started walking back to the apartment. Ceci and I were giggling and goofing off the whole time. When we were less then a block from the house, Luken pulled me closer to him, and put his arm around me. I started to laugh, but when I looked up at his face I stopped. He looked really serious, and on edge. "What is it?" I whispered. "Keep laughing." He whispered. I pretended to laugh. "I think someone is following us. I keep seeing someone out of the corner of my eye." He said. I imediatly thought of Taylor and my heart froze. "Just keep goofing off with Ceci, like nothing is wrong." He said, and I let out another fake laugh. He let go of me and I saw Stuart talking to Ceci. She was pretending to laugh too. He let go of her and she ran over to me. "HEY! Remember that one time the summer after graduation?" She asked, a little too loudly. "At Jared's?" I asked. "Yeah!" She said, and we both laughed. It was hard trying not to be nervous. We were close to the apartment. Ceci linked her arm in mine and we walked a few paces ahead of the guys. There was a loud crash behind us and someone yelled "FUCK!". We turned around and Luken and Calven were facing four guys. I recognized all of them. One of them was Taylor and he was holding a metal baseball bat. "Oh shit." I whispered. "Hey. What's going on here?" Luken asked. They were only about 15 feet in front of us. "I just want to talk to my girl." Taylor said. "Last I heard she wasn't your girl." Luken answered. I could see him tense up. Stuart put one foot slighty in front of the other. It looked like he was getting ready for one of the guys to lunge at him. "Well you are mistaken." Taylor said and hit his hand with the bat. He was shorter then Luken, but definatly more muscular. He had always been able to intimidate most people. But Luken wasn't most people. "We aren't looking for a fight." Stuart said. "It looks like you shitheads already found a fight tonight." Taylor answered. "Heh. You have no idea." Stuart replied. "You want to talk?" I said, not believing my words as they came out of my mouth and I stepped forward. "Yeah. Thats all." Taylor said. "Like we did the last time? You gonna talk with your fists again?" I asked, starting to angry. "I said I was sorry! It was an accident." He answered. "And accident that left her in the hospital for two weeks you SCUM!" Ceci shouted. I watched the two guys at the end try to circle around Stuart and Luken. I expected them to move back a step so that the four guys couldn't make a circle around them. To my surprise they moved forward a step allowing the guys to close in. "Don't do this Taylor. You've done enough meaningless fighting in your life." I said. "Then come back. Right now. I'll take you home." He said. "Never." I answered, firmly. I felt a little brave. I had never been able to stand up to Taylor before. The last time I did, he put me in the hospital. "Have it your way." He said, and his guys moved in closer to Luken and Stuart. "DON'T!" I shouted. I had seen them beat up too many people before. Luken looked at me and shook his head telling me to stop. Telling me they had everything under control. I felt a tear stream down my face. "You fucking her?" He asked Luken. "No." He answered. "LIAR!" Taylor shouted, and spit at Luken's feet. Then he looked at luken again with a puzzled look on his face. "Do I know you?" Taylor asked. "I know you, asshole." Luken answered. "You hung with skin heads." Taylor told him. "Unfortunatly." He answered. "Luken?" The guy standing next to Taylor asked. "Yeah. Glad to see you really made something of yourself there Tracy." Luken answered. Tracy looked away. "Hey, you move and let me take my girl home man, we wont cause a scene." Taylor told him. "You used to hang with some really good friends of mine." "Unfortunatly." Luken said again. I saw the look of rage cross Taylor's face. "Girls, run home." Luken shouted. "No!" I screamed. I had seen Taylor and his friends nearly beat people to death. Including me. I couldn't bear to see Luken or Stuart get hurt. I had just barely met them, but they were some of the nicest guys I had ever met. "Just come on." Ceci said, pulling my arm. "NO!" I said again, shaking my head. "GO!" Luken shouted, looking right at me. I saw Taylor take a swing at his head while it was turned. I flinched and waited for the loud thud, but there wasn't one. I looked up and Luken was holding the end of the bat in his hand. Taylor looked confused. "GO! NOW!" Stuart shouted, and the two guys on his side moved in. I watched him shift his body to the right to avoid the first atacker, and throw him into the guy who was coming at him from behind. I turned and ran back with Ceci. We got to the front entrance and ran inside. Ceci started to run up the stairs, but I stopped and looked out the door. I could just see the fight. I couldn't tell what was going on though. "Come on!" Ceci shouted. "NO!" I answered, and I heard her run up the stairs and bang on a door. "What, what is it?" I heard Olie ask. Ceci shouted something, but couldn't make out what. Next thing I knew Olie and Ted were running down the stairs, and past me out the door. Ted had his cell phone in his hand, to callthe police I assumed. I started crying, and Ceci ran over and put her arm around me. When I looked out the door I saw Taylor running up to Olie. He must have slipped past Luken and Stuart while they were fighting his friends. I opend the door and stepped out. "Whats going on here, man?" Olie asked. "Just want to talk to my girl." Taylor told him, and pointed the bat at me. "I don't think that is a very good idea." Olie said, stepping forward. Ted took a step back and stood in front of me. "The police are on the way." Ted said. "I don't fucking give a shit!" Taylor shouted. Blood and spit sprayed out of his mouth. One of his eyes was swelling shut. Someone had gotten him good before he got away. I looked over at the fight and saw why he was able to get away in the first place. Two more of Taylor's friends must have been hiding, because there were two more fighting with Luken and Stuart. They had two guys on the ground, leaving them still fighting three. I recognized one of the guys. It was a very tall, very built, white guy. I couldn't remember his name. "Just want to talk." Taylor said sternly taking a step toward Olie. Olie put his hand out to stop Taylor, and Taylor swung at him witht he bat, hitting his arm. It sounded like the bone broke. "AHHHHHH!" Olie shouted, and fell to the ground holding his arm. "NOOOOOO!" Ceci shouted, and ran outside and over to Olive. She knelt down next to him, and put her arm around him. She was crying. Taylor took a step toward me, but Ted pushed me farther behind him. Just before Taylor could swing at him Luken came rushing in behind Taylor and tackled him, knocking him to the ground. "Get her inside. NOW!" I heard stuart yell to Ted. He was running after Taylor with Two guys running after him. Ceci already had Olie back inside. Ted grabbed me and pushed me in. He practicly dragged me upstairs. I ran into our apartment and right to my room. I opened the door to my walk in closet and huddled in the corner. Just like I had to when I was a little girl. The closet door opened, and Ted walked in. He shut it and walked over and sat next to me. He put his arms around me, and I completely lost it at that point. I was histaricaly crying and sobbing. He gently rocked me. A few minutes went by and there was a knock on the door. We didn't say anything. Ted just put his finger to his lips to tell me to be quiet. He slowly stood up, and turned toward the door. There was another knock. "It's Luken. It's safe to come out." I heard a muffled voice say. I couldn't tell who it was though. Ted picked up an old field hockey stick back from highschool that I kept in there, and held it up defensively with one hand. He reached out with the other and slowly opened the door. He visibly relaxed, so I knew it really was Luken out there. Ted turned and looked at me. "It's okay. You can come out now." He said, gently. I shook my head no. The door opened wider and Luken walked in, while Ted walked out. He shut the door behind him and turned the light on, then sat down next to me. "Are you okay?" He asked. He was bleading from a few spots on his face, and his left cheek and eye were swollen. I shook my head yes, and he wiped my eyes and cheek with his sleeve, which was torn a little. "The police are here. You need to come down and give a statement. They have Stuart in cuffs, I managed to get up here before they arrested me. Your gonna have to tell them what happend so they don't arrest us." He said. I just nodded my head yes, and he helped me up. I walked out and Olie and Ceci were on the couch. "An ambulance is on the way." I heard a police officer say. It was a woman, and she looked really stearn, but she had a kind face. She saw me and Luken walk out of the room, and she jumped back a step. I need you to turn around and put your hands on the wall." She said when she saw Luken. He did. "He saved us." I told her. "I'm going to need a statement from you." She said, and pointed for me to go sit on the couch by Ceci and Olie. Ted was sitting down on the other side of Olie. I nodded and sat down. I cried watching her cuff Luken. "Sit on the floor." She told him. "Now, miss. Tell me what happened here." She said, and I told her how we were followed and attacked. She was taking notes why I spoke. Just then a male officer walked in the apartment. "You can uncuff him. The rap sheets on all the guys down stairs more then confirm the story. The tough guy with the bat has a huge one full of assults, including some for domestic violence, and a restraining order from a Miss Austin Badler." He said, and nodded his head in my direction. The female officer walked over to Luken and told him to get up then uncuffed him. "Sorry about that. Can never be too sure." She said to him. "I understand." Luken told her. "We're gonna take the guys down to the station." She said. "Thank you." I told her. "Your welcome. You are lucky these brave guys were here to help you out." She said. "I can't belive you took on six men with just you and your friend." added, looking at Luken. "We train and compete in Thai Boxing." Luken said. Just then two EMT's ran through the door. The male officer pointed to Olie, and one of them ran over to him. Another ran over to Luken to check him out. I looked over at Olie and the officers and paramedic where helping him up, and out the door. "It's broken in at least three places. Badly swollen and bruised too. We can fix you up at the hospital." The paramedic said as they were leaving. "You don't look so good yourslef. You need some stiches in more then one place. And I'm worried you might have a busted rib or two." The other paramedic said to Luken. "Where you in another fight recently? Some of these brusies aren't from the fight downstairs." he added, and Luken smiled. "Muay Thai." He said, and the paramdic nodded. "That would explain it. Come on." He said. Ceci, Ted, and I followed everyone down stairs. We walked outside and they were just helping Olie into the ambulance. There were several cop cars, and a second ambulance, which carried Taylor and/or his men, I assumed, was just leaving the scene. I looked in the ambulance in Stuart was in there already, looking pretty beat up. "Hop in." The paramedic told Luken. Luken nodded and climbed in. "We are going to St Joseph's Medical on-" "Campbell." I finished. "Yeah." The paramedic answered. He climbed in behind Luken and it took off. I looked over at Ceci and Ted. "One of us has really got to get a car." Ted said. "Yeah." Ceci answered. Ted opened his phone and called a cab. We had to wait about ten minutes before it showed up. It was another 10 to get to the hospital. Ceci and I jumped out and ran to the emergancy room entrance while Ted payed the cab fare. We burst throught the doors and saw a few of the police officers that were at the scene. Waiting for the doctors to treat taylor and his guys, I presumed. I walked to the front desk and asked about Luken, Olie, and Stuart. The woman told me to have a seat, and she would call my name when she had some news. I thanked her and took a seet with Ted and Ceci. No one said a word.
