Chapter Six

I got on the city bus with a bunch of breakfast sandwiches from Burger King. It only took about 15 minutes to get to Luken's. It would have been faster if I had a car and didn't have to take the bus. I got off at the stop in the neighborhood and walked toward McCallister. I hadn't been in that area in at least a year. I walked past three houses until I came to Marks. At first I wasn't sure if it was his house. There was a blue 1968 Chevy Nova parked in the front.
"Gorgeous." I said, looking at the car. I walked up to the door and knocked.
"COME IN!" I heard someone yell. I struggled with opening the door and not dropping the food. Someone opened the door.
"Austin?" Jasmine said.
"HEY! What are you doing here?" I asked her.
"I live here. I've been dating Mark for about 6 months now!" She said. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
"I came by to see Luken." I told her.
"Here, let me help you. What's with all the food?" She asked.
"I told Luken I'd bring him breakfast. I didn't know who would be here, so I just grabbed a bunch." I told her.
"You are so sweet. Come on in." She said, and I followed her down a small hallway and into a living room.
"Mark! You ass! This poor girl was trying to open the door and not drop all the food!" Jasmine yelled when she walked in the room.
"Oh, sorry babe." Mark said. I walked in after Jasmine.
"Austin! Oh my god! It's been too long!" Mark said, jumping up out of a chair. He gave me a big hug.
"Wow, you look good." He told me.
"Thanks! So do you!" I told him. He took the other bag of food from me and pointed to the couch.
"Luken will be out soon. He's in the shower." Mark said.
"Awesome. Have some food." I said to Mark and Jasmine.
"How is Stuart? He looked pretty bad last night." I asked.
"Stuart is beat up, but still alive." I heard someone say. I looked to the doorway and Stuart was walking in.
"Hey! You look better." I told him, and stood up. He walked over and hugged me then sat down next to me. I handed him a breakfast sandwich.
"Thanks. The medicine makes me so hungry." He said.
"So what the fuck happened last night?" Mark asked, sitting back down in his chair. Jasmine sat down on the floor next to him after she grabbed a breakfast sandwich. I looked at Stuart, and he had his mouth full so he couldn't answer.
"It's a long story. I ran into Taylor." I said.
"You and him aren't dating anymore?" Mark asked.
"No. I guess you guys didn't hear." I said, feeling kind of awkward. I didn't really enjoy bringing it up.
"No, hear what?" Jasmine asked.
"He started turning into a huge ass hole when he started hanging out with the Guns. I don't really want to get into it, but he ended up beating me up pretty bad. That was a few months ago. We ran into him last night and he flipped out when he saw Luken and Stuart with me and Ceci. I wouldn't talk to him or leave with him, so he incited a big fight." I said.
"Oh my god." Jasmine said.
"What a fucking asshole." Mark said.
"Well, it's over now. I'm glad Stuart and Luken were there." I said, and looked at stuart. He just smiled at me. His mouth was still full. He had two wrappers crumpled on his lap and he was finishing a third sandwich.
"Holy shit! You are hungry." I told him. He just shrugged. Just then Luken walked in the room. He was wearing a longsleeve green shirt and jeans. I laughed when I saw he was wearing two mis-matched socks! A black one and a dark green one.
"Hey, you made it!" He said. I scooted over and he sat between me and Stuart, then put his arm around me, and kissed my cheek.
"Awwww." Jasmine said, and I blushed.
"Sorry." Luken said. I just smiled, and leaned forward and grabbed him a sandwich.
"Thanks." He said.
"You're welcome. How are you feeling?" I asked.
"My chest hurts. From the ribs I guess. And the stiches itch like crazy, but other then that I'm fine." He said.
"Thanks again." I told him. "So, whose Nova is that out there?" I asked.
"Luken's. Doesn't it fucking kick ass?" Mark shouted.
"Yeah! I love it!" I said. "Wait a minute! If you have a car, why do you walk and take the bus?" I asked Luken. He swollowed his food, then answered.
"It doesn't exactly run."
"Damn. That is one hot car. I wanna go for a ride." I said.
"Well, I'll take you when I fix it. I only need a few parts." He said.
"Thanks for the food, but I gotta get back to bed. I'm falling asleep again." Stuart said, standing up.
"Aww. Okay. Bye." I told him.
"Want me to wake you up when it's time for your next pain pill?" Jasmine asked.
"Yeah, sure. If you don't mind." Stuart said, and yawned. He left the room.
"Poor guy." Jasmine said.
"I feel so bad." I said.
"Hey, don't say that. It's not your fault." Mark said. "I thought Taylor was too smart to get involved with The Guns." Mark said. I just shrugged.
"I guess not." I said, and looked away.
"Sorry." Mark said.
"It's okay." I told him. Luken put his arm on my leg. "It's just old news. So how did you two end up getting together?" I asked.
We sat around and talked for at least half an hour before Jasmine and Mark had to go to work. They worked at some factory. We said good bye, and then it was just me and Luken sitting together on the couch.
"Thanks for stopping by. Seeing you makes me feel a little better." He said, and brushed a strand of hair from my face.
"I feel a little better seeting you. I was worried." It told him.
"I've had worse beatings just in training." He told me, and put his arm around me.
"Nice socks." I told him, and pointed to his feet. Then I started laughing histaricaly because it reminded me of a horrible pick up line.
"What? My socks never match." He said, and I couldn't stop laughing.
"What?" He asked again.
"Nothing. I thought of a dumb line." I told him.
"Tell me." He said.
"No! I can't." I said.
"You have to now." He told me.
"Uh, I don't think so." I answered.
"Tell me. I'm curious now." he said, and I laughed again.
"Nice socks." I said again. "Wanna fuck?" We both started laughing really hard.
"Ow! It hurts to laugh so hard." He said. Holding his ribs.
"Oh no! I'm sorry." I told him.
"It's okay. Laughing is good." He told me.
"So, what do you have planned for today?" I asked him.
"Not much. I was going to go to the mall and pick up some music." He said.
"Don't you need to rest?" I asked him.
"Nah. I hate sitting around. I'll heal faster if I'm doing stuff." He said.
"Yeah sure you will." I said, sarcasticly. "Would you like some company?"
"I would love some company, if its you." He told me, and looked me in the eye.
"Okay, lets go then." I said and stood up. He stood up after me, and groaned a little bit when he leaned forward to stand up.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Positive." He said, and took my hand. "I just need to get my shoes. I'll be right back." He said, and left. He was back in a minute wearing his boots and a hoodie. He took my hand and we left for the mall. He held my hand the whole time on the bus ride there. I thought it was real sweet of him.
