"Dryden?" I asked when I opened the door. He looked so different. He had dreadlocks, and his lip was pierced.
"Austin." He said, and hugged me. I hugged him back and started to cry.
"Shhhhh. Don't cry lil' sis." He said.
"I missed you." I told him. I really had. He left shortly after my mom died. I had my dad, but he was so full of grief that I was left feeling alone. If it wasn't for Taylor back then I probably would have had a much rougher time.
"I missed you too. Lets get inside." He said, and we went in. I made some coffee and we both sat down on the couch.
"So where have you been?" I asked him.
"We can talk about that later." He said. "You sounded upset on the phone, whats up?" He asked.
"It's a long story." I told him.
"I've got time." he said. I sighed and told him all about Taylor and everything up until the recent events. Even of Tracy stopping by to tell me about Taylor. He waited patiently until I stopped speaking. He looked horrified.
"I'll kill that son of a bitch." He said.
"It's over now." I told him.
"I don't care! I should have been here." He said.
"It's okay. It's not your fault." I told him.
"You said the girls name was Dina?" He asked me. "The one from that night?
"Yeah, why?" I asked.
"Dina Jones?" He asked.
"I don't know." I said.
"Was she black? Light skinned though, green eyes?" He asked.
"Yeah, did you know her?"
"I was friends with her in highschool." He said. "Is she okay?" He asked.
"I don't know. I think so. I havn't seen her since that night." I told him. He looked deeply upset.
"And now Taylor wants you to come see him?" He asked me.
"I don't know. You don't think I should go?" I asked him.
"Are you crazy?" He asked me.
"I can't help but be worried about him. We were together for so long. And he wasn't the same Taylor I knew when he did those horrible things. What if he is different now?" I asked.
"Austin you do what you need to do." Was all Dryden said. There was silence for a minute.
"How is Pa?" He asked. I shrugged.
"I havn't seen him in a few months. Not since I was in the hospital." I said. Dryden looked like he was going to cry. I remembered back to when he left. It was after mom died and him and dad got into a big argument.
"We should go see him." I suggested.
"Yeah." He said, and smiled at me.
"So, what now it's your turn. Where have you been all this time?" I asked him.
"I was out in California." He said. "Mostly just going to school. Berkley University." He said, and looked at him weird.
"Yeah, I know. Doesn't quite fit me, does it?" He asked, and I laughed.
"Not at all!" I told him. "You were always smart though."
"I transferred up here to finish my last semester. I wanted to be home." He said.
"That's great." I told him. I felt proud. There was a knock on the front door, so I got up to answer it. I opened it and Luken was standing there.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey. Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. My brother is here." I told him.
"You have a brother?" he asked.
"Yeah." I said. "He has been gone for a few years, and just got back." I explained.
"I just wanted to check on you. I can come back later." He said.
"No, come meet him." I said.
"Okay." he said, and I kissed him on the cheek before stepping back into my apartment.
"Dryden, this is Luken." I said. "The guy I told you about from-" Dryden was standing up.
"Lee?" Dryden asked Luken.
"Dryden! Oh my god! You left California too?" He asked.
"Yeah! a few days ago." Dryden said.
"Are you kidding me? You two know each other?" I asked.
"Yeah. We knew each other back in California." Luken said.
"This is amazing. I didn't know you had a sister!" Luken said to Dryden.
"I didn't know you knew my sister!" Dryden said. Luken walked in and the hugged each other.
"This is so weird!" I said.
"But your last name is-" Luken started to say, but Dryden interrupted him.
"Is different. I kept my dad's last name even after her dad, my stepdad adopted me."
"Unbelieveable." I said, laughing. Luken got serious all of a sudden.
"Hey, did Thomas, uh, make it?" He asked Dryden. Dryden shook his head.
"Whats going on?" I asked.
"Long story." both guys said at the same time. Just then the front door opened and Ceci walked in.
"Hello?" She said confused.
"Ceci, you little brat!" Dryden said.
"Excuse me?" She asked, then recognized who it was.
"OH MY GOD!" She shouted, and ran over and hugged him.
"I need a drink. This day has been too much!" I said, and sat down on the couch.
